International Women’s Day is about recognising progress, championing equality and celebrating the impact of women across every industry. In tailoring - an industry historically led by men - that impact is powerful.

A Legacy Led by Madame Li

In 1979, at the beginning of China’s economic reforms, Li Guilian founded Dayang with 85 fellow women in Dalian, Liaoning Province. What began as a modest operation has since grown into a global leader in men’s formalwear.

As Chairwoman, Madame Li transformed Dayang from a traditional OEM into a pioneer of customised, branded apparel - producing garments for figures such as Warren Buffett, Bill Gates and U.S. Olympic teams.

Her story is one of resilience and reinvention. On International Women’s Day, it’s a reminder that leadership is not defined by convention, but by vision. Madame Li didn’t just build a factory - she built opportunities for generations of women in manufacturing and leadership.
